SnoHub brings Uber-like approach to shoveling

NEW BRITAIN – Winter is coming and before you know it, snow will soon follow, but have no fear. An app the aims to solve shoveling woes is here.

SnoHub is an on-demand snow-clearing app for homeowners and contractors now available in towns in Central Connecticut including New Britain, Southington, Plainville, Berlin, Newington and Bristol.

The app was launched earlier this year in Westchester County, N.Y., and Fairfield County by tech entrepreneur James Albis of Ridgefield with 200 customers and 25 contractors. It has since expanded throughout Connecticut and the Northeast.

According to Albis, 2,000 customers and 900 contractors have download the app. He plans to expand across the country by next year.

“Our task was to create a scalable solution to address the problems of snow clearing that has been plagued with inefficiencies for decades, at SnoHub we connect our customers with great people by leveraging innovative mobile technology coupled with the best customer experience,” Albis said.

Service pricing starts at $59 for a base of 3 inches of snow, then costs $10 per inch. There are additional fees for salt and clearing areas other than driveways.

SnoHub works much like the ridesharing app Uber. Users will be notified of the estimated time of arrival of their contractor and be able to track them.

It is available to download for free on Apple and Android devices. Once registered, the client and contractor will be connected in less than 10 minutes.

On arrival, photos are taken of each service area together with the measurement of the snow depth. When the job is finished, another set of photos is sent to homeowners to confirm completion and the homeowner’s credit card is then charged using a secure credit card gateway managed through Stripe and Amazon.
